InfoMap Customers

Our customers are great partners!

Emtel values our customers for not only joining us on our journey, but because our customers ask for better functionality.  Our development curve since obtaining 4 key customers, Wairoa District Council, Otorohanga District Council, Waikato District Council, and Commerce Commission NZ, has been increasing each month from release version to release version.

1st Customer to use InfoMap Pro & Public

Emtel was approached by Wairoa District Council’s IT Manager in 2022 to assess their GIS Systems and work in partnership to bring their GIS Systems into the future.

Wairoa District Council had moved away from their long term provider and were developing an Open Source Web GIS System.  However during 2021 and 2022 they had hit a brick wall in their development where the Open Source technology was failing to provide sufficient functionality for their end users.

After an assessment of their GIS Systems Emtel started to assist with the migration to InfoMap Pro.  Stage 1 was to roll out InfoMap Public first and then replace their internal Web Map Viewer with InfoMap Pro.

Stage 1 – InfoMap Public

The start of Stage 1 was packaging up all the data for 7 maps and migrating it to the Emtel Server.  Once this was completed Emtel created the 7 maps in QGIS and deployed the Wairoa District Council maps in InfoMap Public.

Stage 2 – InfoMap Pro

Stage 2 of the project was to migrate all the internal maps and data to the new Wairoa District Council server hosted by Emtel.  A total of 15 maps were to be migrated with Data Integration in to MagiQ Enterprise and Univerus Assets (formerly AssetFinda).  During the project the team at Emtel were training the GIS Officer to manage the system to ensure that staff at council were skilled in deploying new maps.

Otorohanga District Council we currently using an Open Source Web GIS System however they were also looking for a solution with more functionality than their existing Open Source technology.

After a demo of InfoMap by Emtel, Otorohanga District Council decided to go with InfoMap Pro and InfoMap Public.

Project Based Custom InfoMap API

Over the past few years Emtel has been working with the Commerce Commission NZ to create a number of custom project maps to assist with a couple of their projects.  Mapping plays an important role in these projects and data is NZ wide.

Map 1 – SFA Map

Under amendments to the Telecommunications Act 2001, the Commission is required to carry out an annual assessment to determine the geographic areas in which specified fibre services are available to end-users. These geographic areas will be known as specified fibre areas (SFAs).

The assessment and notification of SFAs is an essential prerequisite to enabling Chorus Limited to withdraw supply of copper services to end-users within those SFAs.

A fair amount of Data Analysis was created to prepare the data to be added to InfoMap.

InfoMap Core Engine was used to deploy the map and specific functionality where it could be embedded in the Commerce Commission NZ website.

Map 2 – Telecommunications Connectivity Map

The Commerce Commission NZ have also produced a connectivity map using information collected from broadband providers.

This map allows users to view the coverage of all broadband technologies in New Zealand, as well as understand the make up of connections in geographic areas.

InfoMap Core Engine was once again used to deploy the map and specific functionality where it could be embedded in the Commerce Commission NZ website.
